By introducing different sports to wider audiences at younger ages, we give children and families the opportunities to try new sports that they otherwise may never have tried and create lifelong networks and community bridges. Most children participate in the same sports that their parents played (or at least were around the most as children.) So, even though we are an incredibly inclusive and diverse community, from the stands, many of our varsity sports teams appear to be less so.
At Level the Playing Field, we aspire to actively reach across communities, cultural divides, and socioeconomic barriers at early ages. By actively including, communicating and providing access to our greater Shaker community, we are hoping that we can ignite passions for sports in children who may have otherwise never been introduced. If this dream can come true, our sports teams at every level could become a better reflection of our beautifully diverse Shaker community.
Further, sports competition has an amazing way to bring together all walks of life for a common purpose. Win, lose or draw, Level the Playing Field aspires to facilitate building deeper bonds in our students and stronger relationships in our community.
"Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play."
